Silica-Based Columns - Others
| E-411 |
· Silica-based column without any chemical modification |
| 5SIL |
· High purity salica (99.99%)
· Like E-411, suitable for normal phase analysis using anonpolar, organic solvent |
| 5C8 |
· Retention capasity is lower than that of C18 but higher than of 5C4 or 5TMS
· Applicable to ion pair chromatography because of its high permeability and short time to achieve equilibrium |
5C4 5TMS |
· retention capacity is lower than that C18 or C8 |
| 5CN |
· Utilizes reversed phase interaction and p-p interaction to separate regioisomers, that typically cannot be separated with ODS, C8, or C4 columns |
5NPE 5PYE |
· Utilizes several kinds of interactions based on pie-electons to separate structural isomers |
| 5NH |
· For normal phase analysis of saccharides |

*Pore size of all silica-based columns described in this page is approximately 100 angstrom.
Characteristics and Application of Normal and Reversed Phase Columns
RSpak RP18-415 has a pore size of approximately 450 angstrom and are suitable for the analysis of proteins. The Asahipak ODP, C8P and C4P have a pore size of approximately 250 angstrom and are suitable for peptides.
The RSpak DE-613 and DE-413 have a pore size of approximately 100 angstrom can be used for the analysis of a low molecular weight substances such as oligopeptides. Should none the DE-613, 413 or ODS columns give satisfactory results due the non-retention of the sample then the use of the RSpak RP18-413 or the RP18-613 which have a lower polarity can be recommended.
