The SPE products enable rapid, economical sample clean-up prior to HPLC and GC analyses. This improves resolution and sensitivity, extends column lifetime and avoids instrument downtime. The range of consumables now features 11 phases in the HyperSep line, suitable for many applications and sample volumes in the environmental, chemical and food and beverage industries.
Consistently high recoveries of the SPE range result in the phase (sorbent) retaining high levels of the analyte or compound of interest.

Table A. Results from 1-hour LC/MS/MS runs of tryptic-digested protein complex samples (mixture of 48 proteins). The Aspire tip further removes salts, detergents and other ion-suppressing interference present in the samples. As a result, peptide fragments are more readily detected and the total number of protein identifications increases.

HyperSep SAX SPE Products
HyperSep™SAX Strong Anion Exchanger is a strong anion exchange sorbent which offers minimal non-polar interactions. The decrease in these non-polar interactions results from the amine group that masks any effect of the carbon atoms in the functional group. The selectivity of HyperSep SAX can be modified by the addition of appropriate buffers, which increase or decrease this selectivity.
- Improved retention of weaker anions
- Extracts negatively-charged compounds from both aqueous and non-aqueous solutions
- Ideally suited for the extraction of weak acids, e.g. carboxylic acids
HyperSep SPE columns offer reproducible and reliable sample preparation in a traditional polypropylene column format. An even particle size distribution within the bed provides reproducible flow characteristics.
The HyperSep-96 system uses a 96-well plate format providing fast analysis without sacrificing accuracy or reproducibility. The design offers flexibility with individual removable wells for convenient method development.
Applications
- Isolation of anionic proteins, e.g. immunoglobulins and enzymes
- Removal of acidic pigments from food and beverage products
- Isolation of phenolic compounds
- Peptide pool fractionations
- Nucleic acids, nucleotides and surfactants

HyperSep SCX SPE Products
HyperSep™ SCX Strong Cation Exchanger is a strong cation exchanger which can be primarily used for the extraction of basic drugs. HyperSep SCX is manufactured using a trifunctional benzene sulphonic acid. The presence of the benzene ring means that HyperSep SCX can be used for non-polar interactions. This is due to the unequal distribution of electrons in the benzene ring. This dual mechanism of interaction is useful for analytes with both cationic and non-polar character.
- A strong cation exchange sorbent with a low pKa
- The benzene ring provides high potential for non-polar interactions
HyperSep SPE columns offer reproducible and reliable sample preparation in a traditional polypropylene column format. An even particle size distribution within the bed provides reproducible flow characteristics.
The HyperSep-96 system uses a 96-well plate format providing fast analysis without sacrificing accuracy or reproducibility. The design offers flexibility with individual removable wells for convenient method development.
Applications
- Extraction of antibiotics, drugs, organic bases, amino acids, catecholamines and herbicides
HyperSep Silica SPE Products
HyperSep™ Silica is generally regarded as the most polar sorbent available. It is primarily used for the retention of analytes from non-polar matrices. HyperSep Silica columns offer highly reproducible and reliable sample preparation in a simple format.
- Effectively separates compounds of very similar structure
- Adsorbs analytes from non-polar solvents such as hydrocarbons, chloro- or fluoro-substituted hydrocarbons or less polar esters and ethers
- Also used as a cation exchanger of intermediate strength in aqueous medium
HyperSep SPE columns offer reproducible and reliable sample preparation in a traditional polypropylene column format. An even particle size distribution within the bed provides reproducible flow characteristics.
The HyperSep-96 system uses a 96-well plate format providing fast analysis without sacrificing accuracy or reproducibility. The design offers flexibility with individual removable wells for convenient method development.
Applications
- Extraction of polar compounds such as alcohols, aldehydes, amines, drugs, metabolites, pesticides, herbicides and dyes
- Extraction of caroteniods, fat soluble vitamins, aflatoxins in food matrices
- Extraction of fatty acids and phospholipids from biological matrices
HyperSep SpinTip Microscale Solid Phase Extraction
HyperSepTM SpinTip is a unique concept in solid phase extraction (SPE). HyperSep SpinTip is a pipette tip with a fine slit at the bottom (slit width 1- 2 µm) which permits liquid to pass through but retains the chromatographic material (20 - 30 µm) in the tip. This also eliminates the need for a filter and, thus, dead volume. HyperSep SpinTip contains just your desired chromatography material and nothing else and is excellent when working with small samples.
- Faster sample preparation with minimal sample loss
- No contamination from the supporting matrix
- Samples volumes as small as 0.1 µL can be handled
- Available in volumes of 0.1-10 µL and 10-200 µL
HyperSep SpinTip cartridges have been designed to overcome the problem of handling small volumes of sample. HyperSep SpinTip is available with a range of materials embedded in the tip wall to suit a wide range of applications.
Applications
- Desalting
- Protein purification
- MALDI
- Mass spectrometry
- Electrophoresis
- HPCE, HPLC and CEC

Available in a number of configurations
The QuEChERS method is gaining in popularity around the world as the test of choice for multi-residue pesticide analysis in food and agricultural products. The QuEChERS method offers the advantages of high recoveries, accurate results and high sample throughput, low solvent and glassware usage, less labor and bench space, lower reagent costs. Yet the procedure is robust and rugged.
The QuEChERS method is a two-step process: extraction followed by clean up. The extraction step products use MgSO4 to reduce water in the sample, along with either NaCl (for most applications) or anhydrous sodium acetate for “base-sensitive” compounds (e.g., folpet or captan). The extraction step products are supplied in a 50 mL polypropylene centrifuge tube for convenient extractions.
The QuEChERS clean up step product line contain PSA (primary/secondary amine) for the removal of organic acids and polar pigments among other compounds. Some products couple the PSA with endcapped C18 for the removals of most lipids and sterols, or graphitized carbon black for the removal of sterols and pigments such as chlorophyll. A variety of tube formats and bed weights are available to accommodate large and small sample sizes.
