BetaMax Columns
Achieve maximum retention for maximum results with BetaMax columns.
BetaMax Acid Columns
BetaMax Acid columns with high surface area resulting in maximum retention
- High surface area area and bonded phase coverage for maximum retention, even in high percentage organic conditions
- Chemistries for acidic compounds
For alternative selectivity to traditional alkyl phases, we recommend you try the polar embedded phase BetaMax columns. The stationary phase contains urea groups embedded within the C12 chain, which extra interactions with samples to extend the capabilities of the phase.
BetaMax Acid is fully endcapped and based on a high surface area higly base deactivated 60Å pore size silica. The high surface area (540m2/g) gives the columns maximum retention, whilst the small pore size can also increase retention of small compounds that are able to fully access the pores. The high coverage C12 ligand gives the columns higher hydrophobic retention that other polar embedded phases, and compared to conventional phases (C18 or C8) it offers a completely new selectivity.
A polar functional group between alkyl ligands and the silica surface allows fast analysis without compromising the resolving power. BetaMax Acid is completely stable under 100% aqueous conditions, so it is ideal for 0 to 100% organic fast gradients or where a short column length is desired.

BetaMax Base Columns
BetaMax Base are fully endcapped, with high surface area due to a 60Å pore size
- High surface area area and bonded phase coverage for maximum retention, even in high percentage organic conditions
- Chemistries for basic compounds
For alternative selectivity to traditional alkyl phases, we recommend you try BetaMax Base columns. The stationary phase contains cyano groups, which allow for added polar interactions with basic samples, and added retention for samples containing at least one amino group.
BetaMax Base is fully endcapped, with high surface area due to a 60Å pore size silica. The high surface area (540m2/g) gives the columns maximum retention, whilst the small pore size also increases retention of small compounds that are able to fully access the pores. The high coverage cyano phase gives the columns greater retention that other cyano phase columns, and compared to conventional phases (C18 or C8) it offers a completely new selectivity. The columns can be used in normal phase or reversed phase LC.

BetaMax Neutral Columns
-
High surface area area and bonded phase coverage for maximum retention, even in high percentage organic conditions
-
Chemistries for neutral compounds
For the highest retention for neutral samples, we recommend you use BetaMax Neutral columns. The C18 stationary phase is fully endcapped and based on a high surface area higly base deactivated 60Å pore size silica.
The high surface area (540m2/g) gives the columns maximum retention, whilst the small pore size can also increase retention of small compounds that are able to fully access the pores. The high coverage C18 ligand gives the columns higher hydrophobic retention that many other C18 columns, and is ideal for mass spectrometric detection techniques where a short column length is desired.
Other column dimensions and hardware designs are available. Please contact us for more information if you do not see the exact column that you are interested in.

BioBasic SEC (Size Exclusion) Columns
-
Improved reproducibility, efficiency and column lifetimes
-
Range of stationary phases to optimize selectivity
-
Powerful resolution, even on short column lengths
BioBasic SEC columns are available in four pore sizes (60, 120, 300 and 1000Å) to cater for separations of samples from 100 to 10,000,000 molecular weight. The columns are based on porous silica particles coated with with a hydrophillic polymer for superior column lifetimes. They give superior resolution with 100% aqueous or organic eluents, and do not swell or shrink with changes in solvent, showing higher peak capacityies than polymer-based SEC columns. The polymer coating eliminates secondary interactions so that samples are separated based stricly on their size in solution.
BioBasic SEC columns are ideal for high efficiency gel filtration separation of proteins and other biological molecules where the absence of secondary interactions such as adsorption, is essential for accurate analysis.
The columns are offered in a standard 300 x 7.8mm size, and also 150 x 7.8mm for faster separations, as well as a 30mm length guard column to maximize column lifetimes.

Fluophase Columns
Fluophase columns provide perfluorinated phases for highly selective reversed phase HPLC analyses.
Fluophase PFP Columns
- A range of perfluorinated phases for alternative selectivity
- Extra retention and selectivity for halogenated compounds
- Select from 100Å and 300Å pore sizes
For alternative selectivity to traditional aromatic phases, we recommend you try the perfluorinated phases of Fluophase columns. The stationary phase of Fluophase PFP contains a perfluorinated phenyl ring, where every hydrogen atom on the phenyl ring is substituted for a fluorine atom. This substitution gives the phase extra interactions with polar samples to extend its selectivity capabilities.
Fluophase PFP is fully endcapped, and is based on a highly base deactivated 100Å pore size silica. The pore size combined with the fluorinated phenyl phase gives the columns moderate hydrophobic retention, and due to the more polar fluorine atoms the columns have a different selectivity to traditional phenyl phases.
The Carbon-Fluorine bond has greater dipole that a Carbon-Hydrogen bond. This dipole character allows the phase to offer greater retention of polar and halogentated compounds, compared to a traditional phase. Fluophase PFP is stable under 100% aqueous conditions, so it is ideal for 0 to 100% organic fast gradients.

Fluophase RP Columns
-
A range of perfluorinated phases for alternative selectivity
-
Extra retention and selectivity for halogenated compounds
-
Select from 100Å and 300Å pore sizes
For alternative selectivity to traditional alkyl phases, we recommend you try the perfluorinated phases of Fluophase columns. The stationary phase of Fluophase RP contains a perfluorinated C6 chain, where every hydrogen atom on an unsaturated C6 ligand is substituted for a fluorine atom. This substitution gives the phase extra interactions with polar samples to extend its selectivity capabilities.
Fluophase RP is fully endcapped, and is based on a highly base deactivated 100Å pore size silica. The pore size combined with the Fluorinated C6 phase gives the columns moderate hydrophobic retention for neutral samples, but compared to the conventional phases (C18 or C8) it offers a completely new selectivity.
The Carbon-Fluorine bond has a greaterdipole that a Carbon-Hydrogen bond. This dipole character allows the phase to offer greater retention of polar and halogentated compounds, compared to a traditional phase. Fluophase RP is stable under 100% aqueous conditions, so it is ideal for 0 to 100% organic fast gradients.

HyPURITY Columns
Based on highly-pure silica, HyPURITY columns offer an excellent choice for new method development.
HyPURITY ADVANCE Columns
HyPURITY ADVANCE Columns - offer exceptional chromatographic performance and is ideal for high throughoput laboratories with complex and variable sample types.
HyPURITY ADVANCE contains a polar amide group embedded within a C8 chain, and is fully endcapped. The columns are based on our metal free HyPURITY silica and, compared to other phases, produces a competely new selectivity. A polar functional group between alkyl ligands and the silica surface allows faster analysis without compromising the resolving power. HyPURITY ADVANCE - resulting in exceptional chromatographic performance.
The phase chemistry allows three interaction mechanismswith samples:
The polar character assists retention of polar compounds and limits interactions of samples with the silica surface - which reduces retention of basic compounds.
This effect often resukts in a completely new elution order when compared to traditional alkyl bases chemistries, and gives the columns complete stability in 100% aqueous mobile phases.
The C8 ligand gives moderate retention for neutral samples, hence HyPURITRY ADVANCE is ideal for high throughoput laboratories with complex and variable sample types.

HyPURITY Cyano Columns
-
Based on ultra pure 190 Å pore size silica for analysis of small molecules to proteins
-
Extensive quality control tests to ensure the ultimate in reproducibility and performance
-
Unbeatable peak shapes for all sample types
-
Select from five phases for a wide range of selectivity options
HyPURITY Cyano columns are based on the unique HyPURITY silica, designed to be essentially metal free and exceptionally stable at low pH. The HyPURITY silica manufacturing process ensures reproducibility and quality, and the homogeneous surface leads to uniform bonding coverage and reduced silanol-analyte interactions that result in poor peak shape for bases, acids and chelating compounds. The 190Å pore size and excellent mass transfer properties of HyPURITY packings make them useful for the chromatography of large peptides as well as small molecules, with unbeatable peak shape for all sample types. HyPURITY columns have proven performance for the separation of peptides and components of tryptic digests. HyPURITY Cyano columns can be used in both reversed phase and normal phase separations. In normal phase, HyPURITY Cyano columns offer alternative selectivity to silica phases. In reversed-phase, HyPURITY Cyano columns offer alternative and faster selectivty than many alkyl type phases (C18/C8).

Hypercarb Columns
The unique Hypercarb columns give enhanced retention of polar compounds, can separate structurally related analytes, and are exceptional stable at pH extremes and high temperatures.
Hypercarb Capillaries
Due to the polar retention effect of Hypercarb, Hypercarb capillary columns provide excellent chromatography for difficult-to-retain polar compounds, or compounds that are difficult to resolve due to structural similarity.
Hypercarb capillaries are available in two popular designs:
KAPPA® and PIONEERTM direct-connection columns, which are both ideal for LC/MS.
High efficiency KAPPA columns are available in 0.50mm, 0.32mm, and 0.18mm ID capillaries, and have an 8th inch stainless steel sleeve around the capillary to make them very robust for day-to-day laboratory use. They also have standard steel female endfittings, and so they can be used with standard column connectors.
PIONEER capillary columns minimize band spreading and improve chromatographic efficiency by connecting directly into LC/MS and other detectors with a male 10-32 connection on one end. They are available in 0.50mm and 0.32mm ID.
Due to the polar retnetion effect of Hypercarb, Hypercarb capillary columns provide excellent chromatography for difficult-to-retain polar compounds, or compounds that are difficult to resolve due to structural similarity.
Hypercarb capillaries are ideal for nano and picomol concentration LC/MS applications.

Hypercarb Columns
A unique porous graphitic carbon HPLC phase for problem separations.
- 100% porous graphitic carbon with very different selectivity to reversed-phase silica columns
- Exceptional retention of very polar compounds
- Separation of structurally similar compounds
- Stable from pH 1 to 14 at high temperatures in a wide range of solvents
Hypercarb is a unique material for HPLC manufactured by Thermo Fisher Scientific Hypersil-Keystone. Hypercarb consists of fully porous spherical carbon particles comprised of flat sheets of hexagonally arranged carbon atoms. The carbon atoms have a fully satisfied valence and offer completely different retention and selectivity to silica and polymer based phases.
Hypercarb can be used for RP and NP chromatography with a pH range from 1 to 14, and at extremes of temperature. Hypercarb excels in the analysis of structurally related components (e.g. stereo- and diastereoisomers and positional isomers) where no separation occurs on conventional materials.
Hypercarb retains polar compounds via a 'polar retention effect' where a stronger analyte-sorbent attraction occurs as the polarity of the analyte increases, so the more polar the analyte the longer it's retention time compared to silica-based phases. Due to the unique retention mechanism of Hypercarb, we recommend that you do not use a column longer than 100mm or 150mm in length. Please contact us for technical assistance.

Hypersil GOLD C8 Columns
Hypersil GOLD C8 columns offer outstanding peak shape and performance with less retention than the original Hypersil GOLD.
- Similar selectivity but less retention than C18
- Faster separations
- Excellent peak shapes
- High efficiency
- Outstanding sensitivity
Based upon the same highly pure silica as the original Hypersil GOLD C18 columns, Hypersil GOLD C8 columns also provide very symmetrical peak shapes while also improving capabilities such as speed of analysis, efficiency and sensitivity. Hypersil GOLD C8 media provides similar selectivity to C18 with a predictable elution order, but less retention. This will be of particular interest when trying to analyze compounds in a shorter amount of time, or where smaller amounts of hydrophobicity are needed in order to successfully retain compounds of interest.
Speed of Analysis
Hypersil GOLD C8 provides improved throughput of analysis over that of a C18 alkyl chain chemistry. Hydrophobicity interactions are reduced, allowing compounds to elute quicker from the column. Where simple analyte mixtures are being analyzed, suitable resolution will still be achieved.

Hypersil GOLD CN Columns
Cyano columns based on high purity silica for excellent peak shape in reversed phase and normal phase separations.
- Excellent peak shapes
- Alternative selectivity
- Can be used in reversed or normal phase chromatography
- Outstanding sensitivity
- Less retention for faster analyses
Hypersil GOLD CN are based on the highly pure Hypersil GOLD silica, offering excellent peak shapes while also providing complementary selectivity in reversed phase chromatography with lower hydrophobicity compared to alkyl chain phases. Hypersil GOLD CN columns can also be used in normal phase chromatography, where they offer less retention and different selectivity compared to silica columns. The Hypersil GOLD silica and bonding techniques improve capabilities such as speed of analysis, peak shape and sensitivity over other CN phases. This will be of particular interest when trying to analyze compounds very quickly or when selectivity enhancements are needed.
Selectivity
Hypersil GOLD CN columns help to extend the range of selectivities available. It is applicable in both reversed phase and normal phase chromatography and offers alternative selectivity in both modes. A wide range of compounds can be analyzed using Hypersil GOLD CN, from steroids in reversed phase to sugars and other polar entities in normal phase, allowing confirmational results to be achieved.

The 3µm and 5µm Hypersil GOLD columns are available in both unique and conventional formats, including standard analytical columns, KAPPA capillary columns, DASH high-throughput LC/MS columns, as well as several guard formats. Analytical columns and capillaries range in dimension from 75µm to 4.6mm ID and lengths from 20 to 250mm. For preparative work, Hypersil GOLD is also available in 8µm particle size and larger column dimensions, allowing ultimate flexibility in method development and transfer.

Hypersil GOLD PFP Columns
Outstanding performance and unique selectivity with Hypersil GOLD perfluorinated columns.
- Alternative selectivity to C18
- Extra retention for halogenated species
- Unique selectivity for non-fluorinated polar compounds
- Excellent peak shape and sensitivity
Hypersil GOLD PFP (perfluorophenyl) columns build on the performance of the Hypersil GOLD columns by providing excellent peak shapes while also offering alternative selectivity in reversed phase chromatography compared to alkyl chain phases. The Hypersil GOLD manufacturing process provides improvements in speed of analysis, peak shape and sensitivity over other fluorinated phases. This will be of particular interest when trying to analyze compounds which are difficult to retain or which have complex halogenated functionality.
Unique Selectivity
Hypersil GOLD PFP columns help to extend the range of selectivities that are provided in reversed phase chromatography. This phase will increase retention and resolution, and is particularly suited to separation of halogenated species as well as compounds containing hydroxyl, carboxyl, nitro or other polar groups. The additional mechanisms of the PFP phase, such as steric selectivity of the analyte species and dipole interactions, offer alternative selectivity. Perfluorinated phases like Hypersil GOLD PFP are frequently used in the analysis of complex taxane samples.

Hypersil GOLD Phenyl Columns
-
Alternative selectivity for aromatic and moderately polar analytes
-
Pi-pi interactions with aromatics
-
-
Outstanding peak shape and sensitivity
Hypersil GOLD™ phenyl reversed phase columns exhibit alternative selectivity to alkyl chain columns, particularly for aromatic and moderately polar analytes. The Hypersil GOLD phenyl bonded phase contains a butyl linker which allows for superior alignment of the phenyl ring with aromatic molecules, enhancing pi-pi interactions and therefore retention. The C4 linker also provides the stationary phase with moderate hydrophobicity, making it ideal for the separation of analyte mixtures with varying polarity and aromaticity.
Because Hypersil GOLD phenyl columns are based upon the high purity Hypersil GOLD silica, outstanding peak shape and sensitivity is assured. Hypersil GOLD phenyl columns are available with particle sizes from 1.9 to 5 μm.

Hypersil GOLD aQ™ Columns
-
Retention and resolution of polar analytes
-
Ideal for highly aqueous mobile phases
-
Polar endcapped C18 phase for alternative selectivity
-
Excellent peak shapes
-
Also available in 1.9 μm particle size
Hypersil GOLD aQ™ is built upon the technology of the Hypersil GOLD™ silica, ensuring optimized peak shape, and therefore, resolution, sensitivity and efficiency. Because Hypersil GOLD aQ is a polar endcapped C18 phase, it also offers superior retention of polar compounds. Dispersive interactions are the primary mechanism of retention with alkyl chain bonded phases. The polar functional group used to endcap Hypersil GOLD aQ provides an additional interaction mechanism by which polar compounds can be retained and resolved. This additional interaction mechanism may often provide selectivity differences over the traditional alkyl chain chemistries, and offers a solution for the separation of polar compounds which exhibit insufficient retention on pure alkyl chain phases under typical reversed phase mobile phase conditions.

PRISM Columns
PRISM columns offer unique reversed phase selectivity for excellent retention and separation of difficult analytes.
Products
PRISM RP Columns
- Polar embedded C12 phase for unique selectivity
- Based on type B silica, with 100 Å pore size
- Ideal for polar and acidic compounds
- Endcapped and non-endcapped versions for selectivity choices
For alternative selectivity to traditional alkyl phases, we recommend you try the polar embedded phases of PRISM columns. The stationary phase contains urea groups embedded within the C12 chain, which extra interactions with samples to extend the capabilities of the phase.
PRISM RP is an endcapped stationary phase, based on a highly base deactivated 100Å pore size silica. The pore size combined with the C12 phase gives the columns moderate hydrophobic retention for neutral samples, but compared to the conventional phases (C18 or C8) it offers a completely new selectivity.
A polar functional group between alkyl ligands and the silica surface allows fast analysis without compromising the resolving power. PRISM RP is completely stable under 100% aqueous conditions, so it is ideal for 0 to 100% organic fast gradients.

For alternative selectivity to traditional alkyl phases, we recommend you try the polar embedded phases of PRISM columns. The stationary phase contains urea groups embedded within the C12 chain, which extra interactions with samples to extend the capabilities of the phase.
PRISM RPN is a non-endcapped stationary phase, based on a highly base deactivated 100Å pore size silica.
Additionally, the non-endcapped phase has extra polar selectivity, and is able to retain polar samples, and offer a slightly different elution profile to the PRISM RP phase. PRISM RPN is completely stable under 100% aqueous conditions, so it is ideal for 0 to 100% organic fast gradients.
